a sad hnews post on vaccines (universal flu)
This post on universal flu vaccines from hackernews is really depressing to me.
I have always thought/assumed/hoped that most people in my industry are similar to me in how they discover information.
I can usually find a topic and quickly learn something about that topic. I am by no means an expert but I can be knowledgeable enough to know what I do not know and usually can see through BS quickly.
I think that ability comes from being a programmer/nerd for so long. You must be able to adapt and learn quickly.
So it makes me sad when I read the sheer amount of stupid people making insanely non scientific comments on hnews. Sigh. I had hoped for more.
Apparently anti-intellectualism is strong in technology. That does not bode well in my mind.
